Coming soon: Direct Bill Southwest “Wanna Get Away” fares with Southwest Airlines Direct Connect

Coming soon in 2017 business travelers will be able to direct bill Southwest “Wanna Get Away” fares by booking through BCD Travel in Connexxus, instead of booking through SWABIZ (which doesn’t accept direct bill), paying out of pocket, and getting reimbursed. This is a feature of Southwest’s new Direct Connect program, which allows travel agents to book flights at this discounted rate. When you book Southwest “Wanna Get Away” fares with BCD Travel, you will be automatically enrolled in the UC Travel Insurance program. Stay tuned for an announcement when it goes live.

Coming soon: Global Entry Sign-up event

Due to popular request, the T&E Team is hosting an on-campus Global Entry sign-up event in April 2017. This is a service similar to TSA PreCheck. Offered by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Global Entry provides the TSA PreCheck benefits as well as expedited processing through customs when arriving at U.S. airports from foreign countries. Visit the comparison chart on the DHS website to review how the programs compare. We'll keep you posted on how and when to sign up for the on-campus event. If you are interested in getting updates, subscribe to the T&E updates list.

Global Entry event: Monday, April 10 - Friday, April 14, 2017
Sign-ups open: February 27, 2017

Coming soon: British Airways offering direct flights from Oakland to London Gatwick beginning March 2017

Beginning in March 2017, British Airways will begin non-stop service from Oakland to London Gatwick; which means you’ll have the option to fly direct to London and make connections from London to other international destinations from either Oakland or San Francisco. Read about the direct flights on the British Airways website.

Find It feature: book hotels and flights using your preferred search engine and still take advantage of UC travel discounts

The Find It feature now finds UC negotiated discounts on hotels in addition to airfare. For those travelers who like to comparison shop using external travel sites such as Kayak, Expedia, United etc., you can compare those prices to UC negotiated discounts using the Find It tool. Once you download the Find It plug-in, you’ll get a pop-up option while booking flights or hotels on participating travel sites that will show you how their prices compare to those available through Connexxus with the UC discounts applied, as well as additional lower priced options. The Find It plug-in is easy to setup and use. Get instructions on how to use it on the travel website.
